When Common Sense is not Common

While the Greek Tax administration has embarked on a mission to collect an amount of taxes pre-determined by the Troica, probably by applying a "magical formula" -as long as it helps them arrive at an amount of collections that fits their larger public deficit financing plans (I can't help remembering when Greece was accussed of "Creative Accounting" by Brussels in the past)- I was surprised to hear a speech by the Secretary of Public Revenues -the authority responsible for the design and implementation of the said fiscal policy- that the collection of taxes, will in no case harm any of the rights attributed to the taxpayers to defend themselves against arbitrary assessments. This statement, which in my opinion is a contradition in terms is defeating any notion of common sense. Imagine two fighters in a boxing ring, telling each other, "don't worry I am not going to hurt you". But as a dear friend recently told me sense is not common at all...any comments Ms. Lagarde?
