Political Degeneration

If one were to interpret the current political climate of Greece in medical terms, this term would be "political degeneration". Whether part of the evolutionary concept of globalisation or as a singled-out purely Greek phenomenon, in any event the condition is clinical. It seems that the political spectrum in Greece has undergone an ideological blend to an extent where it appears almost natural for members of one political background to cross-over to the other side, where traditional political ideologies of that side were in frontal contrast not too long ago. It seems though that these days are long gone, and the entire political spectrum has become one and the same melting pot where little or no room has been left to unfold traditional ideologies of our political past. Another not very conducive circumstance stands in connection with the qualitative discounts of voters as far as the political staff is concerned. In traditional politics we were aiming at a Parliamentary composition that would comprise people with substantial educational or a proven political background and experience, people of acclaimed intellect, whereas today it has all become a "reality show". Not very flattering to the voting crowd I must admit, but it seems that this ideological blend on a political level has also transpired into an electoral confusion, as it appears that voters are confusing the parliament as a platform for personal entertainment. How else would one explain the shift from educational criteria to "celebrity" criteria when it comes to choosing for the Parliament? Agreed - part of it may be attributable to the provocative elitism of the past, part of it to the fact that people identify more with one of their own kind. But in my opinion it is extremely sad that we have brought this country to a point where becoming an MP has become an easier objective compared to becoming an intellectual. I guess the same above analysis, if approached with economic terms will probably conclude that the rules of "Supply & Demand" prevail. And the question then remains, how does one upgrade the specifications of demand?
