Monica Lewinsky's Bj and Varoufaki's Finger

What do they have in common? Both served as the underlying plater that sparked the debate about something that is far more important than the inappropriate action that they have committed itself. Namely, the way with which the perpetrators handled themselves and the consequences of their actions in the crisis before the sleepless eye of the people. Bill Clinton's impeachment came as a result not so much of the fact that he had a sexual relationship with Monica Lewinsky, but rather as a result of the fact that he adamantly denied any involvement, i.e. his outright lie to the American people. People are far more inclined to forgive you for something that you might have done in a moment of human weakness, but are extremely relentless in their judgement, if they feel that you are dodging responsibility and your are not being honest about your actions.

Yanis Varoufakis is a case of his own. He showed up last Sunday on German Television at a political round, where he was at some point confronted with an Youtube video from an event that took place in Croatia back in 2013, where he was invited as a speaker to speak about the European Economic crisis, making a comment at some point about the hegemonic stance of Germany and her persistence to the ever growing austerity while showing her the "finger". I am sure that at the time becoming one day Greece's MoF was nowhere to find not even in his boldest day-dreaming scenaria. It only came back two years later to haunt him one Sunday evening of March at a German political TV debate. And how does the man react to the video? Like a true politician. Like a man who is ready to take charge of the country's difficult negotiation with its European partners but commits all political work by bringing his undisputed heavy personality as a legacy into the game. Like the academic capacity that he is and like the "rock star" image that he has been awarded in the last six weeks in office. He accused German TV presenter Guenther Jauch that his team has "doctored" the video and that he has never shown his finger to Germany!! He went on his verbal attack only to add that it is a shameful act by whomever set him up and attributes malice to the action.

Once again there were conspiratory forces in play to discredit the impeccable image of our MoF in Europe! The attitude of a man who very carefully manages his public image and makes sure that he consents with the aesthetics of his pictures in the international boulevard press only "after they are published". Of a man who diligently preserves the value of his political position by spending more time tweeting and re-tweeting only to justify his actions toward journalists, something I am sure Mr. Schauble or Mr. Moscovici do in a similar manner otherwise they would not be able to go to rest at the end of a tough day. How much more humiliation must we endure before our national pride is completely restored at the cost of national debasement by our European partners who now among a million other negative things that we have managed to convey about this nation in such short time have also become witnesses to our dishonesty? But more importantly, why are we holding on to such damaging political assets?
