Diplomatic Rallies

If there was an event like the Olympics in diplomacy, I believe we would be in the "Opening Ceremony" stage of it. Things in the region do not look good. As a matter of fact, they look anything but good and are deteriorating at a fast pace. Power struggle, literally and figuratively speaking. It is about energy resources, as much as it is about personal vanity. Quick chess. Find or create an attacking mark. An excellent opportunity to whomever believes to master the game. With the pretence of upholding international justice each new entry to the game has its own understanding of it. And of course, this must not be new to anyone, but bending the rules is as demanding in skillset as negotiating and setting the rules in the first place. And it is annoyingly cynical that international laws have subjective interpretations. Justice "a la cart" or the failure of the notion of justice altogether. It is funny to see how easily morals can be bent to fit the benefit at hand.

And there is also the notion of conflict. To the average human being a disturbing state but for any politician or leader an opportunity to proliferate his international footprint and create fuzz. Politicians in search of cheap publicity at any cost. Works kind of like your criminal record, should you have one or the lack of decency. At any one point you depart from reality and enter your individual sphere of megalomania. I am sure it must be a comforting place when you have abandoned realism. It probably becomes your personalised experience of delusion, which translates quickly into your single mental habitat. And while I am not against personalised experiences, I do mind when your delusion has the ability to impact my reality or the quality of my life. On that note, stop it. This is the year 2020 and the world has had enough of personal insanity, individual megalomania and superstate aspirations. Feels like we have reached the point again where mankind is pushing for self-destruction. The point where dictators rise again on the premise that enough is never enough and greed is the golden standard. The point where "destruction" is the way forward in anticipation that re-inventing the wheel can be more exciting than the first time around.

A concentration of peace seeking nations all running to the rescue of Libya these days. What a blaspheme. Noble the cause, more interesting the benefit. Turkey, rising to its physical role as a regional superpower is setting the tone, represented by an ever growing leader in arrogance and audacity. A man who should be castrated politically in any healthy environment is being given the podium to peak with his nonsense rhetoric and the tale of a new Ottoman Empire in the making. All of that in complete disregard for international laws and with the backing of even more misbalanced peers, such as Trump and Putin. With a fractioned European front, half in favour and half against him this is an easy game. With the ongoing threat to send over more refugees he puts his dirty feet into the European house like an uninvited guest. And with an attitude. What is more impressive these days are the fragile alliances in the region but also the slicing of the political agendas. The salami approach to every itemised subject. Trump an ally of Turkey in Syria but an enemy in Libya. Putin an enemy in Syria but an ally in Libya. And so on and so forth. The peak in paranoia. Cause tomorrow the cards are being shuffled again and the map of alliances may be again different. Merkel at an all time political low is sucking-up to dictators in fear of not being completely left out. And with German imperialistic interests in mind. The most un-united version of the European Union thus far. These are the kind of moments when someone refers to the lack of global leadership I suppose. Khalifa Haftar is fighting for his people. The rest are fighting for the energy resources in his country with the intention to loot. Some international community...there is proverb in my country saying ..."with friends like these, who needs enemies..."
